Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday; water color and ink. I was quite happy with my preliminary sketches and color rough for this, but the final product wasn't what I had hoped for... I might return to this one later.
I often like my preliminaries better than the final too. I think it's the ease with which we approach the first step. My finals always seem more static … it seems the looseness gets lost while I tighten the image. And always, it never matches what I've got in my mind's eye. (What's up with that???) We're our own worst critic. Carry on! These pieces are charming!
I also love the first rough color. It looks more alive. I often like my doodles and roughs the best. Less time to over analyze seems to produce something more pleasing to me.
So love the sketch black and white. Always love how refreshing it is to see b/w sketches. I think the comments are right on where they state you might be over thinking it with your color and tighten up. I know it is a mind game when color comes into play and can be a strain.I know it is for me and I just love striking in your face colors these days. I do like your work so keep on at it! . Thanks for sharing your steps. :D
Just take this with a grain of salt, it's just a thought... I really like the bottom color one, but the black and white ink version is my favorite because the lines are so energetic and wonderful. The bottom one is charming, but I'd love to see it with all those wonderful sketchy lines from the black and white one and a little loose color like the bottom one, should you choose to revisit it. I just love the lines of the inked one. :)
i like the ink sketch the best.. i think it might be the dash in a quick sketch that captures something that is lost when we carefully polish things up?
The rough color one at the bottom is very charming! It is my favorite. But they are all neat in different ways.
ReplyDeleteI like the bottom illustration too, it has great movement!

ReplyDeleteGood to see I'm not the only one, thanks! I love your work BTW!
DeleteI love the rough, free feeling of the pen sketch. I always forget to scan my work before I finish it.. so I like how you shared your stages.

The bottom one, definitely! That IS the final one.
